Clara and the Bookwagon: From Idea to Final Book

 

Grades 1 - 6
45 minutes

This book (HarperCollins) is historical fiction, a story set against a farming background some 100 years ago when many farm children were unable to go to school. The development of the mobile bookwagon brought much pleasure and 'lessons' to rural children.

The presentation includes discussion on how I became a writer and how I work at writing and rewriting; visual aids demonstrate each step from idea, 'scribbled' first draft manuscript, improved revised manuscript, galleys, examples of illustrators; early sketches, press proof, cover, bound book, and how the character, story, and conflict are created. Reading is encouraged. Question and Answer time.

 

Prairie Friends: From Idea to Final Book

 

Grades 1 - 6
45 minutes

This is also historical fiction, (Harper Collins) placed in midland prairie 150 years ago, when families lived far from one another, and women and girls especially yearned for friends. Discussion opens with the topic of friendship.

I also discuss how I became a writer and how I work at writing and rewriting and rewriting. Visual aids (as in the Bookwagon discussion above) enhance the program. Reading is encouraged. Question and Answer time.

 

Magellan and the First Voyage Around the World

 

Grades 6 and up
45 minutes - 1 hour

This presentation is a history and geography slide show based on my book, Magellan and the First Voyage Around the World.

I also discuss how I became a writer and how I work at writing and rewriting and rewriting. Visual aids enhance the program. Reading is encouraged. Question and Answer time.

 

FEES

 

Honorarium - $750.00 per day, plus transportation and lodging.

Includes 4 presentations per day; book signing included.
Presentations are most beneficial to students when they are familiar with my books.

I will gladly read to Kindergarten and/or first grade classes.

Prefer classroom, double classroom, or library presentations.
