This
book (HarperCollins) is historical fiction, a story set against
a farming background some 100 years ago when many farm children
were unable to go to school. The development of the mobile
bookwagon brought much pleasure and 'lessons' to rural children.
The
presentation includes discussion on how I became a writer
and how I work at writing and rewriting; visual aids demonstrate
each step from idea, 'scribbled' first draft manuscript, improved
revised manuscript, galleys, examples of illustrators; early
sketches, press proof, cover, bound book, and how the character,
story, and conflict are created. Reading is encouraged. Question
and Answer time.
